Subsidies and Eligibility

For a limited time, North Shore-LIJ will subsidize up to 85% of the EHR’s implementation cost and monthly operational fees for 60 months.

Who’s eligible for this offer?

To be eligible for the 85% subsidy, physicians will be asked to:

  • Participate in the identification, selection, development, and utilization of national standards for improving care
  • Use EHR in a way that allows reporting of clinical variables necessary to assess quality of care
  • Agree to a series of clinical processes and outcomes’ measurements for a defined set of preventive and/or chronic disease management measures (“Clinical Practice Parameters”) appropriate for the physician’s specialty and practice

This gathering and sharing of information is solely for the purposes of assessing the health status of the patients we serve in order to support quality-improvement initiatives designed to drive clinical excellence and improvements in the health of our patients. It’s a positive partnership in the service of better care.

Another EHR possibility

If a physician decides he or she does not want to participate in the clinically integrated quality improvement component of this offer, the many advantages of Allscripts EHR is still available at a reduced subsidy from North Shore-LIJ of 50%.

Additional aid from the HITECH Act

Federal incentives – as much as $44,000 over a multi-year period for individuals in private practice – are also currently in play, linked to the HITECH Act in the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Since the government’s incentive program for EHR is front loaded – with 70% of the incentive funds coming in the first two years – there is extra incentive to take advantage of these offers soon.

For physicians in our network, the incentives from the economic stimulus coupled with North Shore-LIJ’s subsidies, will dramatically lower the cost of implementing an EHR.
